I agree with this!! I can totally see you reusing a piece as an outdoor table base or mini table somewhere as an homage to the strong foundation that is not only literally under you but that you have in your life and this massive renovation!

Either that, or they didn’t know about the kind of extra thick slab that application would require.

What some people would DIY is not necessarily best for every person or home. We renovated our old farmhouse and did everything ourselves, except we paid someone to come in and finish the drywall (we hung it all ourselves). Could we have done it ourselves? Sure, but it would have been very tedious and taken lots more time than it took the team of pros. It was worth it to us!

My ex worked for a concrete cutting company for years and so at least had an idea of what was involved when we had to remove 30 feet of poured concrete sidewalk that ran alongside the driveway and on to the side door of the house. Easy peasy, he thought.

We rented a jackhammer and he started breaking it up at the driveway level. That was fine – it was only 4″ thick at that point. However, the thickness gradually increased to over 16″ by the time he worked his way to the house. We ended up with a pile of concrete chunks that are horrifyingly reminiscent of what you’ve got in your pics. Ugh. Fortunately we had space behind a new retaining wall to fill so that’s where most of it resides now.

Pleeeeeeeeease find a way to use some of those concrete chunks for a side-table base or a plant stand or SOMETHING! They’re really neat looking and it would be a lovely way to show off a part of the inner guts of the place.
